Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with former coach his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
