Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
